About UCC Magdeburg
The SAP University Competence Center (UCC) Magdeburg is an independent unit within the Faculty of Computer Science at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. Since 2001, it has supported higher education institutions worldwide with SAP teaching and learning offerings. As part of the SAP University Alliances (UA) program, we accompany academic SAP education, develop innovative learning environments, and enable practical, future-oriented teaching in the field of modern business software.
The Foundation

The establishment of UCC Magdeburg dates back to an SAP AG initiative in 1999. The goal was to set up central hosting centers to support the use of SAP software in university teaching. This approach aimed to make the provision of SAP systems—which until then had been operated decentrally and often with significant technical effort at individual universities—more efficient and reliable. On June 26, 2001, the Higher Education Competence Center (HCC) was founded in Magdeburg. Initially, hosting services were planned for 40 clients, but the demand for centralized support and modern IT infrastructure in academic teaching quickly grew.
By 2007, there were 26 such hosting centers worldwide. As part of a restructuring, these were consolidated into five locations: Chico and Milwaukee in the USA, Magdeburg and Munich in Germany, and Beijing in China. This internationalization was also reflected in the renaming from HCC to University Competence Center (UCC). Since then, SAP UCC Magdeburg has acted as a reliable international partner for universities in over 80 countries.

Today, SAP UCC Magdeburg is the largest of the five global UCCs, hosting more than 230 SAP systems, serving over 900 connected institutions, supporting approximately 4,000 registered instructors, and reaching more than 180,000 students annually. Our core competence lies in providing and continuously developing modern learning environments that are consistently aligned with current academic and business requirements. In addition to technical hosting, we support our academic partners with training, curricula, and train-the-lecturer concepts, laying the foundation for practical, sustainable, and innovative SAP education.
Traditionally, SAP has close ties with Otto von Guericke University of Magdeburg and supports research by sponsoring five postgraduates. Topics such as virtualization, analytics, and cloud computing are on their research agenda.

Our Team
The SAP UCC services
SAP UCC’s services can be broadly divided into three areas: hosting of SAP solutions and system landscapes, curriculum design for teaching and training, and technical and application support. Additional services include cooperation in research projects and co-innovation between business and academia.
To utilize UCC services, a cooperation agreement between your educational institution and the UCC, as well as a software license agreement between your institution and SAP SE, must be concluded. The necessary contract documents are prepared based on a data collection form you provide, and will be sent to you by UCC or SAP UA during the onboarding process.

Technical and Application Support
The following services are available Monday to Friday on working days in the state of Saxony-Anhalt, from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.:

The maintenance window for systems of the SAP UCC Magdeburg is on Tuesdays from 6:00 till 10:00 a.m. During this time problems such as loss of access or limited performance may occur. Please do not plan your courses, exams, and tests during this time.
